Color Your World With Quilts

A Quilt Show to See and Enjoy

2008 Show · 2008 Ribbon Winners · 2008 Quilt Photos · 2008 Recognition & Galleries

The Show

Visitors to the show will want to bring a camera and wear comfortable walking shoes. The Darting Needles Quilt Guild, a group of Fox Valley women approximately 200 strong, will expect to hang and display about 250 quilts.

This Year's show theme is "Color Your World with Quilts", and the ladies of the quilt guild have been working very hard on their newest color combinations to bring you another wonderful show. The largest amount of these quilts are new creations by guild members, made over the past two years since the last show, however the guild also offers a category for our younger quilt makers, a master category for our National award winners as well as an unjudged category for any entrant, to offer a quilt just to hang for your enjoyment.

To view a list of categories click here. Lastly, let's not forget the challenge quilts. This year's challenge to guild members was to use one of the 2 lively fabrics and create a quilt, which when complete, will be donated to a children's charity. Be sure to take a look at these show stoppers. We hope to see you and you friends for a day of fine quilt viewing.

Things to do while at the quilt show

Although one could spend a few hours just viewing quilts, the Darting Needles Quilt Guild will also offer a variety of other things to do and see at the show.

If you visit our show over lunch time, be sure to stop at the Canteen for a light lunch provided by the FVL Sports Parents. Proceeds from sales go to support their sports programs. In tandem with the show, we will also have a Vendors Mall-a lineup of our favorite quilt shops from around the area. Vendors include a bead shop, a wool shop, a sewing center and possibly a scissor sharpener.

After you've purchased the fabric for your next quilt, you should stop at our Boutique which will offer all types of handmade crafts, created by quilt guild members. Purses, bags, beaded items, pin cushions and notecards, just to name a few, will all be available for you to purchase.

Vistors will also want to stop and see the Bed Turnings that will be offered 3 times each day. Linda Honsberger will be showing over 30 quilts from her own collection and offering history and information on each one.

Throughout the day, you can also stop by the Demonstration Tables where you will find quilt guild members will be showing off their many wonderful talents. Don't forget to bring a quilt of your own to have an Appraisal done by Carol Butzke. A fee will be charged per quilt appraisal. Contact Cathy at 920-830-3681 for more information.

Still looking for something to do? Stop by the Challenge Quilts for a feast of color and finally, visit the Raffle Quilts, fall in love with one and buy several raffle tickets in hopes of taking one of them home with you.

The Queen Sized "Logs with Attitude in Your Flower Garden" Quilt was inspired by Sharon Rotz who wrote the Book "Log Cabin Quilts with Attitude". Sharon recently visited our quilt guild meeting in June and inspired us to put a twist on our log cabin blocks.

This quilt is a treaure for any quilt lover and would look awesome on any bed.

Raffle Wall Hanging - Starfire

Raffle Wall Hanging - Starfire

The wall hanging, "Starfire" was inspired by Sharon Olson's "First Thoughts" and by Judy B. Dales and her book "Quilts in Motion". The quilt was created by Deb Luebke and Cathy Balliet to not only promote the show, but to also show quilt makers that anyone can do a comtemporary quilt.

The quilt top was assembled by Deb and Cathy, decorative stitches, quilting and beading was all done by Deb Luebke. The quilt measures 58" x 59". Deb and Cathy outdid themselves on this gem and said, "We made this quilt without any purchased patterns and sort-of made it up as we went along."

To purchase raffle tickets

Raffle tickets for these quilts can be purchased at the quilt show or by calling Deb at 920-733-4632. If you know one of the quilt guild members, you may also call her. Tickets are $1 each or 6 tickets for $5.

The section of the ticket that goes in the drawing will ask for your name address and phone as well as a choice of which quilt you hope to win. If a ticket is turned in without a quilt selection, a quilt guild member will place it in one of the 2 drawing drums prior to the drawing.

Entrants need not be present to win. Drawings will be made at 3:30 on Sunday October 19, 2008. Arrangements will be made with the winners after the show for delivery of the raffle quilts.
